 Empowering Young Minds  Through Education

Meet Your Teacher

The Full Story

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to explore my website. Having parents who are engaged in their child's learning is the first step to success! I spent over a decade teaching in the classroom, I understand the challenges that your child and their teachers face. Thriving Tutoring Services aims to help your child bridge the gaps in their learning so that your child can thrive in and out of the classroom.

Here is a look at how Thriving Tutoring Services came to be!

In 2011, I completed my Education degree as a Physical Education Specialist. My first teaching assignment was in Northern Alberta as a Middle School Physical Education teacher. I very quickly learned that I didn't enjoy teaching in the gym or coaching as much as I had hoped.  After my first year of teaching, I shifted gears and focused my studies on Elementary Literacy. Later that summer I was awarded a Grade 3 classroom. It was here that my love of teaching flourished.

While I was in Alberta, I was exposed to the beautiful teachings of Maria Montessori. Maria Montessori is the creator of Montessori Education. Maria believed that all children can learn when they are shown love, when they feel safe, and when they are provided with hands-on learning opportunities.  Everyday when I put on my teaching "hat" I strive to embrace Maria's teachings by creating a space where your child feels loved, safe, and excited to learn. My teaching resources include hands-on learning materials that allows your child to explore, learn, and retain their experiences.

Upon returning to New Brunswick in 2016, it was apparent that in order to secure a teaching position, I needed to be bilingual. From 2016 to 2020, I worked tirelessly with a Francophone tutor until I achieved the proficiency level of Advanced on the French exam.

In 2019, I took my love for Physical Education and embarked on the Yoga in School course. I am thrilled to be able to offer children's yoga as a part of social-emotional learning! During the Yoga in Schools course, I learned how to teach yoga to children with diverse learning needs such as Autism and ADHD.  The Yoga in Schools course provided me with the knowledge that I needed to bridge my love of Physical Education and Elementary Education.

In 2022, I began my Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. I focused my studies on the Science of Reading as combatting New Brunswick's rate of illiteracy is of the utmost importance to me. After completing three courses with a GPA of 4.2, I realized that the underlying issues of Public Education are rooted in government funding, and obtaining a masters degree would not help me to solve the issues that I was experiencing in the classroom. Ultimately, my decision led me to putting a pause on both my teaching career and my studies.

Over the past year I have spent a lot of time reflecting on how I can use my gifts to serve the needs of our community. This Fall I had the opportunity to provide private tutoring to children who were unable to attend school for various reasons.  Working with children who needed me to meet their learning goals reignited my love and passion for teaching.

Which of course has all led to this... Thriving Tutoring Services.

Thank you so much for believing in me and trusting me to teach your children.

With love,

Jill
